Be Prepared

“It has been asked, and well it might be, how many of us would have jeered, or at least been privately amused, by the sight of Noah building his ark. Presumably, the laughter and the heedlessness continued until it began to rain—and kept raining! How wet some people must have been before Noah’s ark suddenly seemed the only sane act in an insane, bewildered situation! To ponder signs without becoming paranoid, to be aware without frantically matching current events with expectations, using energy that should be spent in other ways to prepare; these are our tasks.” Elder Neal A. Maxwell ~ For the Power is in Them ~ page 20

Ways To Keep Warm In The Winter

1. Wear wool

2. Dress in layers

3. Use rugs on bare floors

4. Drink warm beverages

5. Wear thicker socks or slippers

6. Eat soup and other warm meals

7. Pile extra blankets on your bed

8. Wear a hat to prevent heat loss

9. Leave the oven open after you bake

10. Use a humidifier; humid air feels warmer

11. Switch to flannel sheets and a down comforter

12. Put on clothes as soon as they come out of the dryer

13. Do something active (clean the house, exercise, etc.)

14. Close curtains and blinds at night to keep out the cold

15. Snuggle up in a blanket whenever you're sitting down

16. Open curtains and blinds during the day to let the sun in

17. Shut bathroom fans off as quickly as possible to prevent heat loss

18. Run ceiling fans in reverse to push warm air back down to the ground

19. Make night caps or wear a knitted hat at night to keep your head warm

20. Block drafts with weather stripping, rolled up towels, or homemade draft stoppers

21. Keep your fireplace flue closed when you don't have a fire to prevent unnecessary heat loss

22. Don't run the bathroom fan after you shower; the humidity will make the house feel warmer

23. Make sure heat vents, registers, and radiators are free of obstructions. If they're covered with furniture, the warm air won't reach you – even though you've paid for it

Church has new websites for us to use!

Today we met with the Priesthood and with the youth to hear from the representative of public relations for our Stake. She talked to us about how the church is using the media to be informed and to inform. She talked about being safe while using the internet, but also letting others know who you are and what you believe. We were encouraged if we felt comfortable to have a blog and share your belief's on it. And to link these sites onto your face book site, to show others what you believe. She gave us some sites that are official church sites we might want to watch. I have given you the links on the right side of this page.
It was exciting to see that the church leaders are so inspired. That instead of not using the media they have found a way to use it and spread the message of the truth.
She also talked about how we need to learn not to be afraid of speaking up when we hear others talking about the church and are giving out wrong information. Let's get brave and begin to open our mouths.
